Annual Grandparents' Day Celebration

Fellowship Village, a non-profit continuing care retirement community in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards township, held a Grandparents' Day Celebration on Saturday, September 6. The public event featured a fun-filled afternoon for all ages. There was a petting zoo, balloon art, train rides, face painting, a magaic show, antique appraisals, music and dancing, and of course, plenty of food.

Why Fellowship Village resident Kiyoko Yamashita is smiling. She's with her son, Mike, of Chester, who travels all year as a photographer for National Geographic. But he never misses Grandparents' Day!

The Best Hot Dog!
Dorothy Brandle, a resident of Fellowship Village, loves when the retirement community holds its annual Grandparents' Day Celebration. Brandle spent her day with the best seat in the house: watching the trains, the people, the dancing, the pony rides, and she was out of the sun!

Is This a Hare-y Situation?
Well, actually, it's the annual Grandparents' Day Celebration. Carol Hawthorne of Chester, left, visited with her mom, Dottie McGovern, a Fellowship Village resident.

Fellowship Village resident Pat McGinn, 92, treated herself to a cherry ice during the celebration.

Say Cheese
Phil Thayer, a Fellowship Village resident, is known for taking pictures. So it wasn't a surprise to see Thayer with his trusty camera at the annual Grandparents' Day Celebration.

The Blues Sisters?
Nope, no blues here. Helen Sward, left, and Dorothy West, residents of Fellowship Village, had a grand old time at the annual Grandparents' Day Celebration. Family and friends gathered for various activities including train rides, yoga demonstrations and a petting zoo. There was also music, there was dancing, there was fun for all ages.

Official Grand Opening of the
Fellowship Village Nine Hole Putting Green

Thee Royal and Ancient Putting Society ( RAPS ) of Fellowship Village officially opened the professionaly designed Nine Hole Putting Green the same day the British Open commenced. The sounds of bagpipes heralded the crowd of residents, wait list depositors and invited guests to the grand opening site. Local dignitaries and Pros from Somerset Hills Country Club officiated at the ribbon cutting ceremony. The crowd enjoyed some helpful pointers from the Pros and delighted in the friendly match that followed. While the good weather lasts, residents, their guests and family members are enjoying getting together " On the Green" !

 

Bagpiper,Tom Tevlin, kicked off the ribbon cutting ceremony that formally opened the professionaly designed and landscaped Nine Hole Putting Green at Fellowship Village.

 

It's Official ! The ribbon is cut by Fellowship Village resident, Bob Johnson, originally from Califon, and current president of Thee Royal and Ancient Putting Society (RAPS). In attendance (from l to r) Mayor of Bernards Township, Bill Holmes; Somerset Hills Country Club, head pro, Adam Machala; Bob Johnson; Somerset Hills Country Club, asst. pro, Tim Burr; President & CEO of Fellowship Village, Amos Willcox.

 

The Lucky Winner ! Bob Johnson hands Fellowship Village resident, Mary Jo Howell, originally from Westfield, the door prize, a Frankly Putter. It was graciously donated by The Somerset Hills Country Club in Bernardsville, NJ for this special event.

 

Pros from the Somerset Hills Country Club demonstrate the "fine art of putting".

 

Residents and guests practice their putting swing on the "new" green.

 

The crowd of onlookers enjoys a "friendly" match between the pros.
